    Testing of felt-ceramic materials for combustor applications

    The feasibility of using composite felt ceramic materials as combustor liners was experimentally studied. The material consists of a porous felt pad sandwiched between a layer of ceramic and one of solid metal. Flat, rectangular test panels, which encompassed several design variations of the basic composite material, were tested, two at a time, in a premixed gas turbine combustor as sections of the combustor wall. Tests were conducted at combustor inlet conditions of 0.5 MPa and 533 K with a reference velocity of 25 m/s. The panels were subjected to a hot gas temperature of 2170 K with 1% of the total airflow used to film cool the ceramic surface of the test panel. In general, thin ceramic layers yield low ceramic stress levels with high felt ceramic interface temperatures. On the other hand, thick ceramic layers result in low felt ceramic interface temperatures but high ceramic stress levels. Extensive thermal cycling appears to cause material degradation, but for a limited number of cycles, the survivability of felt ceramic materials, even under extremely severe combustor operating conditions, was conclusively demonstrated

    Study of gastrointestinal toxicity of selective COX-2 inhibitors in comparison with conventional NSAIDs

    Background: Adverse gastrointestinal events are the commonest unwanted effects of the NSAIDs, and are believed to result mainly from the inhibition of gastric COX-1, which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins that normally inhibit acid secretion and protect the mucosa. Previous studies report, that selective COX-2 inhibitors are safer when compared to non-selective cyclooxygenase inhibitors, regarding their adverse effects on gastrointestinal system. But, recent studies reveal, that gastrointestinal safety of these selective COX-2 inhibitors is not much better than that of conventional NSAIDs. In view of the wider usage of selective COX-2 inhibitors, the study has been taken up to report, whether selective COX-2 inhibitors have got any advantages over conventional NSAIDs or not, in regard to their gastrointestinal side effects.Methods: Patients were divided into eight groups, fifteen patients of each. Each group was given one of the NSAIDs from the eight drugs those were selected for the study, for 15 days. In the selected group, along with the symptomatic assessment of gastric toxicity, both pre and post-treatment values of Hb% are estimated, tabulated & subjected to statistical analysis.Results: Both the drugs, diclofenac & meloxicam have shown significant changes in the Hb% values (‘p’ value 0.02 each), whereas selective COX-2 inhibitors like nimesulide & celecoxib were no less in gastric toxicity, in comparison with diclofenac, on symptomatic assessment.Conclusions: In our short-term study, selective COX-2 inhibitors did not show any advantage over non-selective NSAIDs regarding their gastrointestinal toxicity

    Effect of Thermal Annealing on Boron Diffusion, Micro-structural, Electrical and Magnetic properties of Laser Ablated CoFeB Thin Films

    We report on Boron diffusion and subsequent crystallization of Co40_{40}Fe40_{40}B20_{20} (CoFeB) thin films on SiO2_2/Si(001) substrate using pulsed laser deposition. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy reveals Boron diffusion at the interface in both amorphous and crystalline phase of CoFeB. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveals a small fraction of nano-crystallites embedded in the amorphous matrix of CoFeB. However, annealing at 400∘^\circC results in crystallization of CoFe with \textit{bcc} structure along (110) orientation. As-deposited films are non-metallic in nature with the coercivity (Hc_c) of 5Oe while the films annealed at 400∘^\circC are metallic with a Hc_c of 135Oe.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure

    Domain walls (DWs) in magnetic nanowires are promising candidates for a variety of applications including Boolean/unconventional logic, memories, in-memory computing as well as magnetic sensors and biomagnetic implementations. They show rich physical behaviour and are controllable using a number of methods including magnetic fields, charge and spin currents and spin-orbit torques. In this review, we detail types of domain walls in ferromagnetic nanowires and describe processes of manipulating their state.     Clinical profile and triggers of migraine: an Indian perspective

    Background: Primary headache disorders are among the most ubiquitous disorders affecting people worldwide. Migraine headache is one of the commonest syndromes of primary headache. There are few studies regarding clinical profile of migraine and migraine triggers in India. The objective this study was to study the gender, age distribution, frequency, severity of migraine attacks and other associated symptoms in patients presenting with migraine. To study in detail about triggers of migraine in present study population.Methods: About 222 patients who presented with history suggestive of migraine with or without aura defined according to International classification of headache disorders 2, fulfilling the study criteria were included. The study duration was fifteen months from March 2017 to May 2018. Details were collected using a proforma.Results: In this study, incidence of Migraine is higher in females (169,76%) than males (53, 24%). Majority of migraine patients were between age group of 18-29 years constituting about 77 patients (34.65%). Frequency of migraine more commonly observed was 3-4 per month was observed in 64 patients (29%) and chronic migraine was seen in 19 patients (8.4%). Migraine without aura is most common type observed in this study. Many patients had more than one trigger. More common triggers identified were sun exposure (85, 38.3%), sleep deprivation (83, 37.4%), stress (84, 37.8%) and travel (80, 36%).Conclusions: Migraine is more common in females than males with majority being in between age group of 18-29 years. Many had frequency of 3-4 episodes per month. Most had more than one trigger

    Environmental Governance in China

    Abstract The question of environmental governance has been of significant interest to the scholarly community in general and sinologists in particular. The current literature on environmental governance is researched and studied broadly under four domains, namely, globalization, decentralization, market and individual based governance, and cross-scale governance. In this paper one has tried to look into the question of environmental governance in a socialist market economy like China from the point of view of "decentralization". The word "decentralization" here is to be understood in terms of a) central-local relations and b) state-society relations. The paper discusses some of the critical aspects related to these two facts of environmental governance by referring to existing literature in the field of domestic governance and politics in China. Further, the paper discusses some of the measures undertaken in China to tackle the question of environmental governance. The question of environmental governance is currently undergoing a phase of transition with new forms of "collaborative governance" and new forms of "public private partnerships". However, what one gets to see that an apparently authoritarian China has demonstrated remarkable "political capacity" to constantly reinvent itself and been open to the idea of engaging the other stakeholders in tackling the problem of environmental governance

    Design of Hybrid Full Adder using 6T-XOR-Cell for High Speed Processor Designs Applications

    Hybrid-logic implementation is highly suitable in the design of a full adder circuit to attain high-speed low-power consumption, which helps to design n any high speed ALUs that can be used in varies processors and applicable for high speed IoT- Application. XOR/XNOR-cell, Hybrid Full Adder (HFA) are the fundamental building block to perform any arithmetic operation. In this paper, different types of high-speed, low-power 6T-XOR/XNOR-cell designs are being proposed and simulated results are presented. The proposed HFA is simulated using a cadence virtuoso environment in a 45nm technology with supply voltage as 0.8V at 1GHz. The proposed HFA consumes a power of 1.555uw, and the delay is 36.692ns.  Layout designs are drawn for both 6T-XOR/XNOR-cell, and 1- bit HFA designs. XOR/XNOR-cells are designed based on the combination of normal CMOS-inverter and Pass Transistor Logic (PTL). Which is used in the design of high end device processors such as ALU that can be implemented for the IoT- design applications

    Recent studies indicate Natural Killer T (NKT) lymphocytes and Regulatory T (Treg) cells interact to regulate immune responses. NOD mice bearing a targeted deletion of the NKT cell restriction molecule, CD1d, lack NKT cells. To determine whether absence of NKT cells has an effect on Treg numbers, NOD/Lt and NOD.Cd1-/- mice were examined for differences in their Treg population. Flow cytometric analysis of 10-week old female mice of both strains revealed that NOD.Cd1-/- mice have a higher number of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ T cells in both the spleen and liver. Further studies on differences in regulatory T cells between these strains at different ages and the effect of adoptive transfer of NKT cells on Treg cells would give us a better understanding about interactions of these two populations
